Hecate is a mystical, subterranean cocktail bar tucked beneath Krasi in Back Bay, accessed through a discreet door off Public Alley 443 adjacent to its 48 Gloucester Street address. Named for the Greek goddess of magic and witchcraft, the intimate, candlelit, walk-in-only room opened on April 7, 2022 as a concept from the Krasi team, with co-owner Demetri Tsolakis and beverage directors Lou Charbonneau and Aliz Meszesi shaping the drinks program. Alongside its theatrical alcoholic "Rites & Rituals" cocktails, Hecate maintains a serious, dedicated "Zero Proof" section of spirit-free "Dry Spells" so non-drinkers can share fully in the experience. These are built from scratch with house botanicals and clarified preparations rather than off-the-shelf NA spirits, including drinks such as the Theta Range (chicory, beetroot, fig, hibiscus, pomegranate, copal oro, clarified milk, lemon, aquafaba) and the Eighth Tower (devil's claw, yarrow, mugwort, DRAM black bitters, lemon, aquafaba). The atmosphere is, as Time Out put it, "dark, mysterious, alluring, elegant," with Art Deco-inspired furnishings and unusual glassware. The bar takes no reservations and has no phone line, so guests are advised to arrive before opening. Hecate has earned wide acclaim, including a spot at No. 88 on North America's 50 Best Bars 2026 and recognition as a Best of Boston cocktail bar.
