HoneyBee Sage Wellness & Apothecary Cafe

Opened in 2018 on North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, HoneyBee Sage Wellness & Apothecary Cafe is widely credited as Milwaukee's first alcohol-free cocktail bar. Owner Angela Mallett, a licensed massage therapist, doula, and herbalist, built the concept around the idea of a bar experience without the alcohol, lining the cozy room with Milwaukee's iconic Cream City brick and honeycomb-inspired decor. The venture carries personal weight: Mallett has said the shop is "part of my dad's legacy," noting he died of alcohol-related organ failure about four months after she opened the first HoneyBee Sage, which is why she "did not want to introduce alcohol into a space where we offer healing alternatives and medicine."

The program is entirely non-alcoholic. Hand-crafted zero-proof cocktails are made from fresh fruit, natural sweeteners such as honey, maple, and agave, and alcohol-free spirits, alongside herbal and traditional teas, kombucha, and bakery items. Signature pours include "A Little Bit of Love," a mocktail associated with Milwaukee Bucks player Bobby Portis, a Wisconsin "New" Fashioned, and Moonwater. Beyond the beverage bar, the space operates as a full apothecary carrying more than 200 herbs, medicinal herbal teas, clean body products, and metaphysical healing tools, hosting community wellness events under the motto "Elevation without intoxication."

The cafe has become a recognized anchor of Milwaukee's sober and sober-curious scene, featured by FOX6, Spectrum News 1, OnMilwaukee, and Visit Milwaukee's mocktail guides. It maintains a 4.9-star Yelp rating and remains actively operating in 2026 with posted daily hours. A second, newer HoneyBee Sage location has since opened in the Historic Third Ward, with the King Drive site serving as the original Bronzeville flagship.
