The downtown Huli Huli opened on 20 May 2026 at 22 East Mound Street, taking over the Jury Room — a space that had been a bar in one form or another since 1831 and had sat empty for years before the tiki fit-out. It is the second location for owner Dustin Sun, following the Powell original, and the announcement drew more attention than most Columbus openings precisely because of what was being replaced: a room that traded on being the city's oldest continuously licensed bar site becoming a tropical lounge was, to put it mildly, discussed.
For a non-drinking guest the practical point is that the downtown room inherits the Powell drinks programme, which was already one of the more serious alcohol-free offerings in the metro. The house cocktails are available zero-proof to order — the Honolulu Mule, the Blue Hawaiian and the Baby Aspirin are the three that local coverage consistently names — and they are built rather than substituted. This matters more in tiki than in most categories: a daiquiri or a mai tai without rum is a genuinely different drink, but a Blue Hawaii or a mule is largely a structure of fruit, citrus, syrup, spice and crushed ice, so the zero-proof version arrives at the table looking and reading like the full-proof one. The Baby Aspirin — pineapple, orange and cream of coconut in a coconut cup — is served identically either way. The downtown room runs a tighter schedule than Powell, opening Wednesday through Saturday evenings only, and does not publish a separate phone line; reservations and enquiries route through the same site as the Powell bar. Note that this is a distinct venue from the Powell lounge, not a relocation. The location is a genuine convenience for anyone staying downtown: it sits a short walk from the Brewery District and German Village, which puts it within the same evening as Law Bird and Cobra for anyone building an alcohol-free crawl on the south side of the centre. Being new, the room is also less pressed than the Powell original at weekends.
