Kingfisher is a Vietnamese-French cocktail bar and eatery in historic Golden Hill, opened in January 2022 by sisters Ky and Kim Phan together with Kim's husband Quan Le. The kitchen serves modern Vietnamese cooking with French and East Asian influences, the cocktail programme is ambitious, and the room has collected a Michelin Guide listing along with national and statewide best-of placements — which makes it one of Golden Hill's most acclaimed places to eat and drink.

The approach to non-alcoholic drinks here is worth describing precisely, because it differs from most bars in this directory. Rather than composing separate zero-proof builds from scratch, general manager David Tye uses Lyre's non-alcoholic spirits to rebuild existing cocktails from the menu alcohol-free while keeping the original recipe structure intact. The Papaya Margarita is the clearest example — non-alcoholic tequila with papaya, lime, agave and black lava sea salt, which is the same drink the person next to you ordered rather than a different one wearing its name. Tye has explained the reasoning directly: "Lyre's makes quality stuff, and it allowed us to be able to do a quick change but keep the original idea of the cocktail intact." That is a legitimate and under-used strategy. It means the zero-proof options scale with the cocktail list instead of being frozen at whatever two drinks were written a year ago, and it means a non-drinker orders from the same menu as everyone else rather than being handed a separate card. The trade-off is that the spirit-free options are conversions rather than original compositions, so ask the bar what is possible rather than expecting a printed list. Open evenings, closed Tuesdays. Golden Hill is a small, largely residential neighbourhood, and Kingfisher is the reason most people cross the city to eat there — which makes the flexibility of its zero-proof approach more valuable than a longer fixed list at somewhere less worth travelling to.
