Listen Bar

Listen Bar began because a friend dared Lorelei Bandrovschi to spend a month without drinking. She found there was nowhere she wanted to go, and in October 2018 opened Listen Bar as a five-day proof-of-concept in an empty bar space in South Williamsburg. It was staffed by musician bartenders — that was the point, not a gimmick. Bandrovschi's ambition was to create a new revenue stream for independent musicians, something like an in-person Patreon where you are not buying merch but sharing a one-on-one experience, because she believed the next revolution in music is experience, and not just arena shows but intimacy. It never took a permanent lease, running instead as a roving pop-up across New York venues, and it became one of the original templates for the modern alcohol-free bar, collecting a run of national press along the way and hosting its own Good AF Awards for non-alcoholic drinks. Documented signature drinks include Actual Sunshine, a recipe by Eamon Rockey, and Dollar Slice, by Aaron Polsky, with Athletic Brewing beer and Pilot Kombucha on tap alongside bottled Curious Elixirs and Club Mate.

We have to tell you plainly that it appears to be dormant. As of August 2026 we can find no confirmed Listen Bar activity dated later than January 2025. The newest item on the bar's own events page is the Good AF Awards 2025, which took place that January; everything below it is older, and no 2026 edition appears there or anywhere else we could search. The most recent substantial interview with Bandrovschi we could find dates from September 2024. That is roughly nineteen months of silence. What has not changed is the website, which is live, well-maintained and written entirely in the present tense, and an Instagram account with thousands of followers still standing. Neither is evidence of activity — a maintained site is exactly what a paused project looks like from outside, and we have been caught by that before in both directions. So: this entry stays, because a pop-up that has gone quiet is not a pop-up that has closed, and Listen Bar has revived for Dry January more than once. But do not plan an evening around it without checking first.
