Mijo Modern Mexican opened on 5 December 2023 as part of the debut of Durango Casino & Resort, Station Casinos' property in the far southwest Las Vegas valley, and it was one of the first restaurants at Durango to draw serious attention on its own terms. It comes from the Las Vegas-born Clique Hospitality, with Donald Thompson II heading the kitchen after years with Clique at Hearthstone. The cooking is coastal Mexican and wood-grill-driven: whole fresh fish, prime meats, ceviches, house-made tortillas and elevated street-food dishes, served across several dining rooms and a patio framed in greenery. The bar's reputation rests on an extensive tequila and mezcal list, which is precisely what makes the other half of the program notable.
Rather than leaving non-drinkers to the soda gun in an agave-focused room, Mijo runs a dedicated Zero Proof section of crafted mocktails at $13. The standout is the Watermelon Cooler, built on Almave Blanco — the non-alcoholic blue agave distillate co-created by Lewis Hamilton — with watermelon, lime and soda, which puts a genuine agave-flavoured drink in front of someone who cannot or does not drink tequila. Alongside it sit Pinky's Up (hibiscus, passion fruit, pineapple and soda) and Nice Mangos (mango, lime, agave and ginger beer). Las Vegas Weekly featured the restaurant in its January 2026 Dry January guide on the strength of those offerings, calling it a sun-drenched escape without the plane ticket and the crown jewel of the southwest. Because Durango sits about twenty minutes off the Strip and serves a largely local clientele, Mijo functions as a genuine neighbourhood option for an alcohol-free night out rather than a tourist stop, with dinner nightly and brunch service at the weekend.
