Neon Moon does not open until 8pm from Tuesday to Thursday. That tells you what kind of room it is: a proper late bar on 2nd Avenue North in downtown Birmingham, trading to 2am every night it is open, with a 6pm start at weekends.

Bars like this are usually the worst possible place to be sober. The later the hour, the narrower the options, and by midnight most rooms have nothing to offer but a soda gun. Frozen drinks are an underrated answer to the alcohol-free problem: the texture does a lot of the work that alcohol's weight would otherwise do, and a coffee base brings bitterness, which is the quality most mocktails lack and the reason so many of them cloy by the second half of the glass.
