266 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903
Oberlin sits on Westminster Street in downtown Providence, the first of chef Benjamin Sukle's restaurants and still the one that defines his cooking for most people — raw fish handled with precision, hand-made pasta, and vegetables from growers he has worked with for years. The room is narrow and busy and the menu changes with what is landing and growing.
The bar follows the kitchen's logic, which is what earns the restaurant a place here. Its non-alcoholic drinks are built from cordials and infusions made in house rather than assembled from bottled mixers, so they carry the same seasonal character as the plates. Two builds are documented in current Providence coverage: a house citrus cordial, served light and zesty, and a garden julep that runs herbal and deliberately calming rather than sweet. Between them they cover the two things a non-drinker usually wants — something sharp with food, and something long and aromatic to sit with.
This is a restaurant rather than a bar, and the alcohol-free offering is correspondingly compact: two considered drinks rather than a full printed section, which is why we grade it a three rather than a four. What it has over most restaurants at that level is that the drinks are actually made, not poured. If you are eating here and not drinking, you will get something built for the meal rather than a glass of soda.
Oberlin shares its ownership and its block with Gift Horse, the raw bar a couple of doors down at 272 Westminster, so the two can be treated as a pair on the same evening. We have not published prices or exact current names, as the list moves seasonally and we could not read the restaurant's live drinks menu directly.
