3921 Second Ave, Detroit, MI 48201
Opened in 2014 on Second Avenue, Selden Standard helped define Detroit's modern dining revival and has since become a fixture of the city's fine-dining scene — a repeat James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant (2024 and 2025) and a USA Today best-restaurant pick. The seasonal, wood-fired menu changes constantly around what local farms are growing, and the bar program follows the same philosophy.
That care extends to the zero-proof list. General manager Paul Fradeneck, a decade-plus beverage veteran, builds the non-alcoholic cocktails to stand on their own rather than mimic the spirited ones, leaning on pantry and kitchen ingredients to replace the mouthfeel and bitterness that alcohol provides. The rotating options include named mocktails such as the bittersweet Beautiful Genius and the cucumber-mint-citrus Instant Karma, plus non-alcoholic beer, house hopped water, and Casamar Club, an amaro-inspired leisure soda from a Detroit brand.
Non-alcoholic menu: what to order
- Beautiful Genius (bittersweet, ginger)
- Instant Karma (cucumber, mint, citrus)

“It's actually harder to create a well-balanced, non-alcoholic cocktail than it is to make a traditional one using alcohol.”— Paul Fradeneck, Selden Standard general managerMichigan.org (Pure Michigan) →
