Shades built its name from a 500-square-foot Park City garage before settling into its South Salt Lake taproom on Utopia Avenue, where the beer is brewed on-site. A bigger Ballpark brewpub — opened April 2025 in the renovated "Engine Block" building with around 50 taps and a full kitchen — closed later that year amid a landlord dispute, and that space now trades as the unaffiliated Engine Room Pub & Bistro; the Utopia Avenue taproom is once again the place to drink Shades.
The non-alcoholic side is a dedicated mocktail program under the "Stripped" name rather than an in-house non-alcoholic beer, anchored by the Stripped Geared Mule that the Salt Lake Tribune singled out as a standout at the Ballpark room. Taproom hours are shorter than pub hours — afternoons into early evening most days — so it's worth confirming before a visit.
