2614 Boll St, Dallas, TX 75204
Tucked inside a 19th-century wood-paneled house on Boll Street in Uptown Dallas, Bowen House is one of the few cocktail bars in North Texas where sober-curious visitors can feel genuinely looked after rather than accommodated as an afterthought. The bar's standing mocktail menu includes a cucumber gimlet that has surfaced repeatedly in guest reviews as a standout zero-proof option — built on fresh cucumber and citrus in the spirit of the classic gimlet format — giving non-drinkers a real reason to come rather than a token concession. The setting itself — candles, chandeliers, dim wood-toned rooms — does the rest of the work before a single drink is poured.
On the alcoholic side, the Laurel Canyon Spritz (lemony and elderflower-bright, a close cousin of the Aperol variant) and the passionfruit-forward Power Hour have become regulars on the ordering circuit, while the back bar's reputation for bespoke, made-to-preference builds means the menu is really a starting point. Owner Pasha Heidari opened the space in 2014 with a pre-Prohibition focus that still anchors the program — think Sazeracs, Ward 8s, and bourbon smashes alongside the seasonal specials. No named beverage director has been publicly documented in press coverage.
Bowen House earns its reputation as one of the better date-night destinations in Uptown precisely because it refuses to feel like an Uptown bar: no TVs, no DJ, no velvet rope energy. The rooms are small and tend to fill up by 7 pm on weeknights, so reservations (made by phone after noon, per their Instagram) are strongly recommended. Dress code is casual but the vibe skews smart-casual — it's the kind of place where a blazer fits without feeling overdressed. Walk-ins are welcome but may end up standing. Patio seating is available for good-weather nights, and happy hour runs daily from 4–6 pm.
