Marigold

Marigold was Minnesota's first dedicated non-alcoholic bottle shop, opened in late 2022 on Nicollet Avenue in the Kingfield neighbourhood of South Minneapolis by Erin Flavin, a hair stylist and the owner of Honeycomb Salon. The origin is unusually specific: Flavin got sober in 2020, and the idea grew out of the conversations she was having in her salon chair — which is, if you think about it, one of the few remaining settings where people talk honestly about their drinking to someone who is not a doctor. The shop is entirely alcohol-free, and the range is broad enough to serve both a curious first-timer and somebody restocking: non-alcoholic spirits and aperitifs, dealcoholized wine and sparkling teas, NA beer, bitters and mixers, ready-to-drink cocktails, adaptogenic and functional drinks, plus a THC and CBD section. Three Spirit, Ghia, Kin Euphorics, Aplos and Untitled Art N/A sit on the shelves alongside local THC and CBD producers.

What makes the shop worth writing about at length in 2026 is its position. It is now the last standing non-alcoholic bottle shop in the Twin Cities, after its own St. Paul outpost closed and a Northeast Minneapolis competitor did too — and by Flavin's own account the business is a week-by-week labour of love rather than a comfortable one. That is a useful corrective to the market-size reports about this category booming: the drinks sell, but a shop selling only them, in a cold-weather city, is a hard business. It is also the reason the place functions as a community anchor rather than just a retailer. Flavin's framing of who the shop is for is the best articulation of the inclusive position anyone in this category has offered: "That's what's so nice about this place: It's for everybody. I don't want anybody to feel like they can't come in here because they still drink." That sentence is why the shop works, and it is worth quoting to anyone who assumes non-alcoholic retail is only for people in recovery. Open seven days, later on Thursday through Saturday.
