5202 McGinnis Ferry Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30005
MOTW stands for Muslims of the World, the Instagram project Sajjad Shah began during a period of heightened anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States as a way of publishing ordinary people's stories. The coffee shops came later and are described by the company as a physical extension of that platform — "a space where stories, culture, and philanthropy converge over a cup of coffee", in the words of its own about page. The chain has since spread across Indiana, Illinois, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Texas, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and California; the Alpharetta shop on McGinnis Ferry Road is its only Georgia location, run by local franchise owner Mudassir, and it opened with Pakistani-American ownership behind it.
What lands it on a non-alcoholic guide is a combination of format and clock. MOTW serves specialty coffee and Arabic pastries, has no bar and no licence, and trades to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and 1am on Friday and Saturday. In a stretch of far-north metro Atlanta where the evening options are chain restaurants and bars, that gives sober and sober-curious drinkers a room with a genuine late-night atmosphere. The interior is laid out as a lounge — soft seating, long tables, room for a group to sit for two or three hours — and the trade after 9pm is social rather than transactional. The counter runs a conventional espresso bar alongside desserts and Arabic baked goods. We have deliberately not listed named signature drinks here: MOTW publishes its drinks menu only as a downloadable PDF that we could not read reliably, and rather than guess at names we have left the field empty. Everything else — hours, address, format, ownership and the total absence of alcohol — is confirmed from the company's own site and from the Google Places record. The Alpharetta branch sits on McGinnis Ferry Road near the Forsyth County line, a stretch of the metro whose growing South Asian and Muslim population has driven much of the demand for late-opening rooms that serve no alcohol, and MOTW is one of a small handful in that corridor. Alongside coffee, the counter carries the Arabic pastry range the brand is known for, and the philanthropic strand of the business — a share of proceeds directed back through the Muslims of the World platform — remains part of how the company presents itself.
