NIL Bottle Shop is the retail arm of NIL Distributing, a zero-proof beverage company founded by Brady Mescher and his wife in November 2024. As Cincinnati Magazine reported, the couple identified a market gap: non-alcoholic options were expanding rapidly in other cities while regional liquor distributors largely neglected zero-proof products. "We knew the void had to be filled," Mescher told the magazine. A month after launching the distribution business, they opened the bottle shop in December 2024 — deliberately timed to catch the annual Dry January wave — inside the Painted Tree Boutiques marketplace at 11315 Montgomery Road in Symmes Township.

The shop is 100 percent alcohol-free. Its handpicked shelves carry non-alcoholic wines, craft NA spirits, ready-to-drink mocktails and mixers, chosen, in Mescher's words, for "flavor, quality, or experience." Cincinnati Magazine singled out the Spiritless Espresso Martini as one of Mescher's favorites among the drinks on offer. Because the concept is retail rather than a bar, there is no bartender: the booth is unstaffed, restocked regularly, and each product is paired with an informative sign and QR code so shoppers can read tasting notes and details before they buy. Mescher frames the mission around inclusion — "Providing options that mimic full proof alternatives gives people a feeling of inclusion" — and the magazine noted the shop's first-month sales exceeded the founders' goals.

Practically, NIL is a vendor stall rather than a standalone storefront, so it keeps the Painted Tree Boutiques marketplace's hours — generally Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and you check out through the marketplace, not a dedicated register. It suits anyone doing Dry January, pregnant or in recovery, or simply curious to take home a bottle of alcohol-free spirit or wine without driving to a big-city bottle shop.
