One Twenty Three Tavern

One Twenty Three Tavern is named for its street number and sits at 123 Ionia Avenue SW, part of the run of downtown venues on Ionia that includes Big Mini Putt Club at number 70 and Max's South Seas Hideaway at number 58. It is a New American tavern with a full kitchen and a broad menu, and its most useful feature for planning purposes is its opening hours: 11am to 11pm every day of the week, without the Sunday or Monday closures that make several of the better zero-proof rooms in this guide unavailable for half the week.

Its non-alcoholic approach is the opposite of Cafe Jazzy Rose's. Where Jazzy Rose builds new drinks out of adaptogens and botanicals, One Twenty Three rebuilds the standards: a non-alcoholic Margarita, a non-alcoholic Gin and Soda and a non-alcoholic Tom Collins, all three named in the Downtown Grand Rapids alliance's October 2025 round-up of the best non-alcoholic drinks downtown. There is an argument for each approach, and the classics route has a specific advantage worth naming — a guest can order a Tom Collins in the same words everyone else at the table is using, and receive something that looks and reads like what the rest of them are drinking. For a lot of people, particularly early in not drinking, that anonymity matters more than novelty does, and a tavern that will build the three most-ordered long drinks without alcohol covers most of what anyone is likely to want. Combined with the daily 11am to 11pm hours and a full food menu, it is a practical default rather than a destination: the place to suggest when the group has not decided, when it is a Sunday, or when somebody needs to eat.
