Pink Gorilla Kava

Pink Gorilla Kava opened in April 2026 at 340 West Flagler Street in Downtown Miami, a short walk from the Miami River and Brickell. It comes from the team behind the Miami fashion label Pink Gorilla — founders Daniel Karan and Christian Ramos — with restaurateur Giancarlo Rodriguez involved in the venue, and it doubles as a retail storefront for the brand.

The concept splits the day cleanly. Mornings are a specialty coffee bar: organic coffee, lattes and ceremonial matcha made with scratch-made syrups, with pastries from local bakeries. Evenings become a kava lounge serving traditional kava and botanical k-tea. It is pitched explicitly as a low-key, sober alternative to a neighbourhood otherwise dominated by clubs, which in downtown Miami is a genuine gap rather than a marketing line.

The roughly 66-seat room includes a large outdoor terrace. Early coverage and reviews have singled out the matcha and coffee rather than the kava, which is worth knowing: for anyone curious about the format but not about the botanicals, the daytime operation stands on its own.

That a fashion label opened it is not incidental. A brand extending into a physical room is betting that sober social space is culturally desirable rather than merely therapeutic — which is a different, and probably more durable, proposition than wellness.

The caveat that belongs on every kava listing applies here and should not be softened: kava is psychoactive and sedating, with documented case reports of liver injury, and kratom acts on opioid receptors and carries real dependence and withdrawal risk. Everything served is free of alcohol. That is a narrower claim than nothing served having an effect, and for anyone whose reason for avoiding alcohol is recovery from a substance-use disorder, the difference is the whole question.
