Syndicate Kava Bar sits in the Wynwood Arts District and was founded by Joyci Borovsky and Joey Roberts on a stated principle: built for the community of locals by those same locals. What separates it from most alcohol-free venues is that it behaves like nightlife rather than like a wellness cafe. It runs until 3am daily, and the calendar is programmed rather than incidental — Tuesday open mics, Thursday comedy, a Saturday cabaret.
That programming is the substance of the argument. The hardest part of not drinking is rarely the drink; it is that the entire social architecture of a night out is organised around bars, and most sober alternatives close at nine and offer nothing to do. A room with a cabaret on Saturday and a 3am closing time competes with Wynwood on its own terms rather than offering an early, quieter substitute for it.
The pours are brewed Fijian kava and kratom, served by the glass or the growler, with green, red and gold teas on tap and a roster of house-built kava and kratom mocktails. The named drinks carry the same irreverence as the room — Slutty Nectar, a kava lemonade with watermelon, mint, lime and agave; Bitches Brew, a kava mojito; the Skinny Bitch; Dasha's Kava Milkshake. A second Syndicate operates in South Beach.
The caveat that belongs on every kava listing applies here and should not be softened: kava is psychoactive and sedating, with documented case reports of liver injury, and kratom acts on opioid receptors and carries real dependence and withdrawal risk. Everything served is free of alcohol. That is a narrower claim than nothing served having an effect, and for anyone whose reason for avoiding alcohol is recovery from a substance-use disorder, the difference is the whole question.
