2395 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33145
Vice City Kava sits on Coral Way and commits entirely to a 1980s Miami Vice aesthetic — neon, vaporwave lighting, deliberate retro nostalgia. Its stated mission is unusually plain-spoken: relaxation, energy and euphoria through kava and kratom, minus the booze, pressure and weird vibes. That last phrase does real work. Much of what makes drinking culture hard to leave is not the alcohol itself but the pressure and the awkwardness of declining, and naming it directly is more useful than most wellness marketing manages.
The pours are traditional strained kava sourced primarily from Fiji, kratom teas, herbal infusions and nitro cold brew, with Belgian waffles and ramen from the kitchen. It runs 9am to 3am daily — an eighteen-hour day covering the morning, the working afternoon and the small hours, which very little else in Miami manages without alcohol as the organising principle.
The community programming is where it goes furthest: weekly trivia, open mics, live music, Around the Tanoa gatherings named for the communal kava bowl, and a free Sound Library of instruments and recording gear. Lending instruments to customers is not a normal bar amenity — it is a statement that the room is for doing something rather than for consuming. BestKavaBar lists it as the number one kava bar in South Florida, and a second site, The Warehouse, operates elsewhere in the city.
The caveat that belongs on every kava listing applies here and should not be softened: kava is psychoactive and sedating, with documented case reports of liver injury, and kratom acts on opioid receptors and carries real dependence and withdrawal risk. Everything served is free of alcohol. That is a narrower claim than nothing served having an effect, and for anyone whose reason for avoiding alcohol is recovery from a substance-use disorder, the difference is the whole question.
