Rare Bird Rooftop

Rare Bird is the rooftop bar and lounge on the thirteenth floor of the Noelle Hotel in downtown Nashville, with views across the skyline and out to the Cumberland River. It opened to the public in March 2018 around a concept it describes as draft cocktails and uncaged spirits, in a colourful, design-forward room that has made it one of the more photographed rooftops in the city. It is walk-in only — no reservations — and runs a daily Golden Hour happy-hour menu on weekdays.

The zero-proof list is small but genuinely built, and the distinction worth drawing is that it leans on dedicated non-alcoholic spirits rather than assembling juice and soda and calling it a mocktail. The Lemon Julip is built on Seedlip Grove 42, the citrus expression of the original non-alcoholic distillate. The N/Aperol Spritz combines Ritual's non-alcoholic gin with Giffard aperitif to reconstruct a spritz properly — bitter, orange-forward and long, rather than sweet. A spirit-free Daiquiri-Ish completes the three. Using real non-alcoholic products costs a bar money it does not have to spend, and the fact that a hotel rooftop has done so rather than defaulting to fruit purée is the signal here.

The practical value is situational and worth naming plainly: a rooftop with a skyline view is one of the standard things visitors to Nashville want to do, and it is exactly the sort of place where a non-drinker usually ends up holding a soda while everyone else has a cocktail in a nice glass. Three composed spirit-free builds solves that, at a venue people were going to anyway. Open daily, to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Because the bar is walk-in only, it is also one of the easier rooftops in the city to reach without planning — worth knowing on a night when a group decides late that it wants a view.
