Community Beer Co. is a brewery, distillery and taproom-restaurant at 3110 Commonwealth Drive near the Design District, founded by Kevin Carr in 2013 and now occupying a sprawling former ExxonMobil campus. It matters to non-drinkers for a structural reason rather than a menu one: Community brews its own non-alcoholic beer in-house under the Nada label, which puts it in a small group of breweries producing zero-proof beer themselves rather than reselling somebody else's. The Dallas Observer reported in May 2024 that the brewery had collected six Great American Beer Festival awards, including one for its non-alcoholic beer, along with two World Beer Cup medals; Nada IPA took bronze in the non-alcohol category at the 2022 Great American Beer Festival.
The taproom's non-alcoholic beer section centres on Nada IPA, hopped with Mosaic, Sabro and Simcoe, and Texas Free, a non-alcoholic lite beer at roughly 25 calories and 5g of carbohydrate; the printed taproom menu has also carried Nada Hazy IPA, Nada Golden and Nada Wheat at around 30 calories each, poured from 12oz cans, though the published range rotates. Less well known is that the cocktail menu runs a separate block headed "Mocktails", explicitly marked as containing zero alcohol, with six named drinks — several of which use the brewery's own non-alcoholic beer as an ingredient. The Nada Shandy combines lemonade with Nada IPA and fresh-squeezed lime over ice, and the Nada Sunrise Shandy builds Nada Hazy IPA with cranberry juice, lemonade and lime. The Community Mock is hibiscus simple syrup, lime juice, Sprite and soda water; the Mock Mule is ginger beer, lime juice and soda water; and the list is rounded out by a Lavender Lemon and a Mocklada of pineapple juice, coconut cream, water and a lime wedge. One caveat worth knowing before you go: the taproom also pours THC seltzers from the same beverage menu, which readers avoiding intoxicants of any kind will want to be aware of when ordering. The taproom is open Wednesday to Sunday, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and welcomes children and dogs.
