200 N Mesquite St #119, Arlington, TX 76011

The Fool's Kava House occupies a downtown Arlington storefront and keeps genuine bar hours — every day until 2am — which is the detail that matters most about it. The great practical problem of not drinking is not finding a beverage; it is finding somewhere that is still open and still social at eleven at night. This room answers that without serving any alcohol at all, and it describes itself plainly as a sober social community rather than a café that happens to close late.

The menu is built on kava, the Pacific Islander root traditionally prepared as a relaxing ceremonial drink, offered across several strains and in botanical tonic form. A full coffee and tea programme runs alongside it — drip coffee, lattes, matcha, chai — so a visit does not have to involve kava at all. The house is billed as Arlington's first and only kava bar, and as the first woman- and queer-owned kava bar in Texas.

One thing to be clear about, because this directory is used by people in recovery: kava is psychoactive. It is not alcohol, it is legal, and many people in sobriety drink it without issue, but it is a mood-altering botanical rather than an inert soft drink. Anyone whose sobriety means abstaining from all intoxicants should know that going in — and for anyone else, an alcohol-free room open to 2am in a college town is a rare and useful thing. Individual drink names are not published on their site, so it is worth asking what is prepared that night.
