109 Industrial St, Denton, TX 76201
The Denton location of The Kava Bar is at 109 Industrial Street, a few steps from the Square, and the company sums it up in its own words as a place for long study sessions, late conversations and the friendliest bartenders in Denton County. It is one of four bars in a small North Texas group, with the others in North Dallas, Oak Cliff and Fort Worth, and the company's site lists a fifth location as coming soon. Each is built around one big communal bar, and the house advice is to sit there: coffee if it is morning, a half shell of traditional kava on a first visit, and a Calm Tonic if the week has been long.
Kava is the reason to come. The root is native to the Pacific Islands, where it has been prepared and shared at ceremonies and social gatherings for centuries, and the menu explains that its naturally occurring kavalactones are known for their calming effect — in the company's phrase, taking the edge off without checking out. Bartenders walk first-timers through strength, flavour and how to pace a first shell. Around the kava are functional botanical drinks made with adaptogens such as lion's mane, rhodiola, ashwagandha and reishi, a loose-leaf tea list that runs from ceremonial matcha and chai to hibiscus and an Earl Grey oat latte, and a zero-proof drink that changes every month. The company says coffee from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters, a family-owned Dallas roastery, is coming to its bars.
No alcohol is served. As recently as September 2026 the company's menu also listed house kratom brews — red, green and white vein, 18 and over only — with a warning that they can be habit-forming; the redesigned site no longer names kratom, so anyone avoiding it should ask what is on offer. Kava and some botanical ingredients do have effects, and the bar is open about it: its safety notes say some products carry age requirements, advise against combining botanicals with alcohol or anything with a similar effect, and ask anyone who is pregnant, takes prescription medication or has a medical condition to check with a doctor first. That is worth knowing for anyone in recovery. It is open from 8am to midnight Sunday to Thursday and until 1am on Friday and Saturday, so it works as a late-evening room as much as a daytime one.
