Hard Shake opened in March 2025 on the 23rd floor of Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, part of a full redesign of that floor which turned the hotel's former SkyBar into a pair of new rooms — this bar and the adjoining tea lounge Peacock Alley. The name is a piece of bartending history rather than a pun: the hard shake is the stylised three-point shaking technique developed by Kazuo Uyeda, the Japanese bartender whose Tokyo bar Tender made the method famous, and the whole room is designed around that idea of precision as craft. The space has a custom mosaic tile floor, deep indigo banquettes curving along the perimeter with Art Deco detailing, a marbled dark stone bar punctuated with champagne brass, and gold-illuminated fixtures casting a low, warm light — all of it set against floor-to-ceiling windows with an unobstructed view down the Strip. A late-night menu of elevated bites runs alongside the drinks, from Wagyu sliders and caviar to a signature honey shrimp served with honey citrus curry, candied walnuts and chili thread.
The cocktail list is bold and technique-forward, built around drinks like The Katana, which combines Hibiki Harmony whisky with house-spiced Drambuie and finishes with pecan bitters. The spirit-free side of the program is smaller than the list at somewhere like Alexxa's, and it is worth being clear about that: this is a bar with capable bartenders who make a good non-alcoholic drink rather than a bar running a long dedicated zero-proof menu. What is documented is the Reverie, a mixologist-designed build of sparkling watermelon and lime, which the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's own guide named among the seven must-try spirit-free drinks in the city. For a guest who wants a quiet, genuinely upscale room high above the Strip — one where the view is the point, the light is low, and nobody is going to make an issue of what is in your glass — it is one of the better options in this part of town.
