390 Third St, Cambridge, MA 02142
Shy Bird opened in Kendall Square at 390 Third Street as the first of three locations from Andrew Holden, who previously ran Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square and also operates Branch Line in Watertown. The format is all-day: breakfast from 8am on weekdays, lunch through the middle of the day, brunch at weekends and dinner until 9pm or 10pm, built around rotisserie chicken and a wood-fired kitchen. Because it turns over from a morning coffee stop into a dinner room, its bar has to answer for people who are not drinking at every hour, and the beverage menu is set up accordingly.
The printed 'Zero Proof Cocktails' section runs six drinks alongside the twelve house cocktails, not on a separate card. Cloud Nine is coconut, lime and club soda at $10; Side Eye is hibiscus, orange and grapefruit at $10; Strawberry Fields is strawberry, rhubarb, lime and ginger beer at $10; the Tea-groni is built with Gnista wormwood, a non-alcoholic aperitif and black tea at $13; and two drinks use Tilden, the Massachusetts non-alcoholic cocktail producer, as the Lacewing with cucumber, basil, lychee and juniper berry and the Tandem with American oak, lapsang, tart cherry and bitter orange, both $14. Gnista Wormwood is also available as a straight sipping pour at $13.50, and the packaged zero-proof list carries Ghia Le Spritz in rotating flavours and non-alcoholic Best Day Brewing in hazy IPA or electro lime lager. The Boston Globe used the Kendall Square Tilden Lacewing as one of its reference points in a March 2026 piece on the rise of high-priced zero-proof drinks in Boston; the drink has since moved up to $14 on the house menu. Holden opened Kendall Square first and has since added the South Boston and Fenway branches, all three carrying the identical zero-proof section, and he also runs Branch Line in Watertown. Breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and dinner all draw on the same beverage menu.
