Wild Heaven Beer

Wild Heaven Beer was founded in 2010 by Georgia natives Nick Purdy and Eric Johnson, making it one of the state's earliest craft breweries. The West End location opened in late 2019 inside the Lee+White development at 1010 White Street SW, directly on the BeltLine's Southwest Trail — a 21,000-square-foot brewery and restaurant with food and coffee on site, joining the Avondale flagship and a Toco Hills location.

The reason it earns a listing is that Wild Heaven brews its own non-alcoholic beer rather than stocking someone else's. Near Wild Heaven is a non-alcoholic IPA under 0.5% ABV, built with Trident, Centennial and El Dorado hops for grapefruit, pine and citrus, and it is poured on draft beside the full-strength lineup as well as sold in six-packs.

The production detail is genuinely unusual. Rather than brewing a normal beer and stripping the alcohol out — the standard industrial method, which tends to strip flavour with it — Wild Heaven ferments with a maltose-negative yeast strain that simply cannot consume most of the sugar, so very little alcohol is ever created. The beer is then treated with a gluten-reducing enzyme to 99.9 percent gluten-free and pasteurised to remove live yeast. That last step matters for shelf stability, and it is the reason a low-alcohol beer can sit safely on a shelf at all.

Drinking a house-brewed NA beer on draft in the taproom that made it is a different experience from being handed a bottle from the back of the fridge, and there are only a handful of breweries in the country where it is possible. Copresident and brewmaster Eric Johnson developed the beer with head brewer Josh Franks, and Johnson told Atlanta Magazine in 2025 that it was a project the two of them put a lot of energy into — which, for a beer that by design contains almost no alcohol, is the point.
