City Works is best known for a tap wall of ninety-odd beers, which makes the size of its non-alcoholic list a genuine surprise. The Clearfork location's drink menu carries a section printed as "Zero-Proof (Spirit-Free)" running to around eleven items — deeper than most dedicated cocktail bars in the metroplex manage, and a useful answer to the problem of being the non-drinker at a table that came for the beer.

The headline build is the Peace Punch, which uses Seedlip Grove 42 — the citrus expression of the British non-alcoholic distillate — with orange and pineapple juice, cream of coconut, lime and grenadine. It is the one drink on the list constructed like a bar cocktail rather than a soft drink. Around it sit a Garden Nojito built on cucumber, mint and lime with lavender and raspberry syrups, a Mellow Mule that runs cucumber and honey syrup into blueberry and ginger beer, and a Strawberry Soothe.

An honest caveat for anyone choosing where to spend an evening: not every item under that heading is a mixed drink. Several are house lemonades and dirty sodas, which pad the count. The section is genuine and clearly labelled, and the Seedlip build in particular is a real zero-proof cocktail, but the depth is not quite what eleven items implies. It is a large, loud, family-friendly room in a shopping district rather than a destination bar — which is exactly what makes it useful on a night when the group wants beer and you do not.
