Dante has anchored MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village since 1915, when it opened as Caffè Dante, an Italian coffeehouse. In 2015 the historic café was taken over by Australian hospitality partners Linden Pride and Nathalie Hudson, with Naren Young as creative director, who reimagined it as a world-class aperitivo bar while preserving its all-day Italian heritage. The reinvention earned Dante the No. 1 spot on The World's 50 Best Bars list as World's Best Bar in 2019, the same year it took World's Best Bar and Best American Restaurant Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. The bar is credited with reviving the Negroni in the U.S. and popularizing the Garibaldi — Campari topped with aerated, freshly squeezed "fluffy" orange juice. That same craft carries into a genuine zero-proof program: alongside the cocktail menu, Dante offers a dedicated "Temperance" section of non-alcoholic drinks led by its signature NOgroni, an NA spritz, and a spirit-free espresso martini made with orange juice and vanilla — making one of the city's most famous aperitivo bars a genuinely welcoming destination for non-drinkers.

Dante takes cocktails seriously. Known for their Italian-leaning menu with contemporary takes on classics like spritzes and Negronis, it's also one of the few places where you'll find a take on a sort of zero-proof espresso martini, made with orange juice and vanilla.
