223 Carlton St, Toronto, ON M5A 2L2, Canada
ZERO Cocktail Bar sits on Carlton Street in Toronto's Cabbagetown and describes itself as Canada's first non-alcoholic cocktail bar - a combined bar, tasting room and bottle shop built around what the venue calls "Curated Experiences. Curated Bottles. Crafted Cocktails." The team frames the concept around the shift toward mindful drinking, citing that up to 30% of guests at Canadian events aren't consuming alcohol and up to 51% of Canadians are mindfully consuming it.
The cocktail menu runs to fourteen named, zero-proof drinks built on alternative spirits and NA brands. The Power Serve pairs an alternative whiskey with ginger beer for "a spicy, crisp serve with depth, bite, and a lively ginger snap," while the Le Marg leans on Free Spirit Alternative Tequila and Crossip for a "zesty, full bodied" citrus pour. The Aperitivo Spritz builds Ghia's herbal complexity with grapefruit and bittersweet orange, and the French 57 pairs Sober Spirits Gin with Undone French Aperitif for a lightly bitter citrus lift. The Sorrel Negroni and Soulful Sorrel both draw on hibiscus and Caribbean-style sorrel for bitter, spiced, citrus-lifted pours; the Stressa Sour and Hibiscus Bitter add DR ZERO and Crossip Hibiscus bitterness to citrus bases; and the Mauby Old Fashioned uses mauby bark bitterness with caramelized spice for a soft, smoky, Old Fashioned-style riff.
Alongside the bar, ZERO runs a retail bottle shop stocking NA wines, beers, alternative spirits and botanicals - including Noughty Rosé - plus a café line of hot and cold coffee drinks and a short food menu of loaded fries, hand-cut fries and grilled cheese. The venue also runs cocktail mixology classes, seasonal pop-ups around Toronto (including Sankofa Square and the Waterfront Underground Night Market), guided Sunday hikes, and a "Behind the Bar" podcast. Over Here Toronto named it among the city's best, writing: "If you're serious about the zero-proof life, this is your Mecca. It's a dedicated, alcohol-free bar, tasting room, and bottle shop all rolled into one."
