Bravus Brewing Company is a Southern California brewery widely credited as America's first exclusively non-alcoholic craft brewery. It was founded by Philip Brandes, a former software developer who took up home-brewing after a close friend battling alcohol dependency sought a better-tasting alcohol-free option. Brandes spent roughly a year developing recipes in his garage before launching the brand in 2015, formally establishing the company the following year. The name combines "brave" and "us."

Unlike many non-alcoholic producers, Bravus does not brew a standard beer and then strip the alcohol out via reverse osmosis or vacuum distillation. Instead it uses a proprietary fermentation method and yeast that simply never create significant alcohol in the first place, which the brewery says preserves the full flavor and aroma of craft beer. All Bravus beers come in below 0.5% ABV — the U.S. legal threshold for "non-alcoholic" — and are 100% vegan and brewed to reduce gluten to under 20 ppm. The lineup spans hop-forward styles like the West Coast IPA and Blood Orange IPA through richer dark beers such as Oatmeal Dark and Peanut Butter Dark, plus seasonal and barrel-aged releases.

The company began in a 1,400-square-foot space in Santa Ana, California, and expanded in mid-2020 into a 23,000-square-foot facility in Anaheim's Platinum Triangle. Its year-round brands are distributed nationally, including shelf space at Total Wine stores. In 2019, Bravus earned two medals in the non-alcoholic category at the Great American Beer Festival — a notable industry recognition for an alcohol-free producer.

Monday Morning

Pacific Beach

Bottle Shop
NA Program Strength: 5 of 5?·5 NA brands

Monday Morning is San Diego's first exclusively non-alcoholic bottle shop and tasting room, opened in Pacific Beach in late 2024 by founder Zane Curtis after he embraced a sober lifestyle. The shop stocks more than 500 zero-proof products — non-alcoholic beer (IPAs, lagers, stouts, sours, wheat), dealcoholized wine, spirit alternatives (gin, whiskey, tequila, rum), ready-to-drink mocktails, and functional drinks with adaptogens and nootropics — across 50-plus brands including Athletic, Bravus, Partake, Seedlip, and Ritual. A tasting bar lets customers sample anything before buying, with staff guiding selections. Curtis's business also handles NA distribution, custom recipes, staff training, and events, and in January 2026 it opened a second location in Ocean Beach.

Ocean Beach

Bottle Shop
NA Program Strength: 5 of 5?·5 NA brands

Monday Morning is a fully alcohol-free bottle shop and tasting bar in Ocean Beach, the second San Diego location from founder Zane Curtis, opened January 2, 2026 at 4967 Newport Ave inside the OB Business Center — on the one-year anniversary of the original Pacific Beach store. It stocks more than 500 zero-proof products: non-alcoholic beer, dealcoholized wine, spirit alternatives, ready-to-drink mocktails, and functional drinks across 50-plus brands including Athletic, Bravus, Partake, Seedlip, and Ritual. A tasting bar lets customers try anything before buying, and because the OB space is compact, the team opens the windows to serve the boardwalk. It's a genuine alcohol-free retail-and-tasting destination steps from the beach.

John's Marketplace

Creston-Kenilworth

Bottle Shop
NA Program Strength: 4 of 5?·3 NA brands

John's Marketplace is a bottle shop and taproom on SE Powell Boulevard in Creston-Kenilworth, opened in July 2020 as the eastside store of a long-running Portland beverage retailer. Non-alcoholic drinks are a standing category rather than a token shelf: "Non-Alc" sits in the shop's top-level navigation alongside beer, wine and cider, the range reaches past NA beer into non-alcoholic spirits, wine and mixers, and the Powell store hosted a free 20-vendor Dry January "Booze-Free Fest" in January 2025. It is an alcohol-forward bottle shop with a serious non-alcoholic selection, not an alcohol-free venue.

Tía Carmen

Desert Ridge

Restaurant
NA Program Strength: 3 of 5?·2 NA brands

Chef Angelo Sosa's modern Southwestern restaurant at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge runs a thoughtful non-alcoholic lineup alongside an agave-driven bar. Named zero-proof drinks include the Short & Spicy (aguachile, ginger, pineapple) and the Tall & Bubbly (prickly pear, hibiscus, sparkling apple cider), both drawing on the same desert-Southwest larder as the kitchen rather than defaulting to citrus and syrup. The non-alcoholic beer list reaches well past the usual single option, carrying Athletic Brewing's Upside Dawn and several Bravus Brewing beers — a rarity in resort dining, where the NA fridge is normally one lager nobody has checked the date on.
