City Hall Bistro

The Adolphus has been the grand hotel of downtown Dallas since 1912, and City Hall Bistro is its all-day dining room, facing the old municipal building that gives it its name. The detail that earns it a place here is not the size of its non-alcoholic list but its permanence: the Free Spirited section is printed on all four of the hotel's current menus — lunch, dinner and two in-room lists — which means it is a standing part of the operation rather than a January promotion that quietly disappears in February.

Both builds use real non-alcoholic spirits. The Blood Orange Mocktail runs Ritual's tequila alternative into blood orange with ginger and thyme. The Adolphus Spiced Tea is the more considered of the two, combining Ritual's rum alternative with Seedlip Garden 108, orgeat and lemon into something warm-spiced and long — a drink built for a hotel lobby in a way a fruit spritz would not be. Clausthaler, the German non-alcoholic beer, sits alongside them.

A practical caution: the hotel's own website publishes conflicting opening hours for the restaurant across two official pages, so we have recorded none. Call the hotel rather than trusting a listing, particularly if you are planning breakfast or a late dinner.
