The Lucky Saint is the first pub in the country owned and run by an alcohol-free beer brand. It opened in March 2023 under founder Luke Boase, who started Lucky Saint in 2018 and developed its 0.5% unfiltered lager with a family brewery in Bavaria. The site — on the corner of Devonshire Street and Hallam Street on the Marylebone–Fitzrovia border, a short walk from the BBC's Broadcasting House — is the former Masons Arms, a pub that had stood empty for around three years before Lucky Saint restored it over roughly five months with Orla Read Interior Design and Hipgrave Construction. The upper floors double as the company's headquarters, and in a nod to the building's long history as a local for broadcasters, there is a bookable podcast studio on site.
Crucially, it reads as a proper London boozer rather than a themed "sober bar". The four-storey red-brick Regency terrace curves around the corner, and the ground-floor room keeps its traditional character: dark wood panelling, a grand central bar, etched mirrors and a mix of benches and stools. The food is deliberately pub-classic and kept short — small plates such as Pecorino and truffle mixed nuts, pork crackling, St John sourdough, a chicken, leek and truffle terrine, pork pies with Montgomery cheddar and pickled eggs — built to sit alongside a pint rather than compete with it.
The real point of difference is what's poured. Lucky Saint's own 0.5% unfiltered pale lager leads the taps, backed by a genuinely deep low-and-no range: Guinness 0.0 and Asahi 0.0 on draught, alcohol-free beers from brewers such as Mashgang, plus non-alcoholic wines and zero-proof aperitifs and spirits including Botivo, Pentire and Everleaf. The cocktail list mixes low-ABV serves with fully alcohol-free builds — the Pentire Radler stretches 100ml of Lucky Saint with 35ml of Pentire Adrift (a Cornish-foraged non-alcoholic spirit), fresh lemon juice and agave over ice, while the Spicy Michelada builds 125ml of Lucky Saint with hot sauce, lime, agave and a Tajín rim. The brand reports that around 15% of the drinks sold here are alcohol-free, against a UK pub average nearer 1%, so ordering a zero-proof pint never feels like the odd choice.
